Send health data securely
Transmit findings, imaging data and reports encrypted, with password protection, a clear deadline and automatic deletion.
The situation
Health data belongs to the special categories under Art. 9 GDPR, and for many professions a duty of confidentiality applies on top. Even so, findings, doctor's letters and imaging data often go out as an ordinary email attachment or travel through messengers and private cloud links. There they stay without an expiry date, in mailboxes, on smartphones and in backups. Once data has been sent that way, it can hardly be retrieved.
How Fairsend helps
Encryption in the browser
Files are encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM before they are uploaded. On the servers in Germany they are stored encrypted.
Password through a separate channel from Premium
Protect the transfer with a password and give it by phone.
Recipient code by email from Premium
Each recipient confirms their address with a code before the download. A forwarded link is then not enough to download.
Short expiry period from Premium
You decide how long the data stays available.
Automatic deletion
When the period ends, the files are deleted automatically and permanently. There is no recycle bin.
Proof of Delivery
You see when the recipient has completely downloaded the files.
Suitable plan
Premium
€9.90 / month
or €79.00 per year
- Up to 50 GB per transfer
- Available for up to 30 days
Premium includes password protection, recipient code and a custom expiry, which are particularly helpful when sending health data.
Working as a team
Several staff members work on the Team plan with roles and a shared address book, which helps against misaddressed transfers. Owners and admins can make password protection and recipient code mandatory for everyone. The audit log records security-relevant actions.
For details on how encryption, storage and deletion work, see the Security page.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as health data?
This covers all information about a person's physical or mental health, such as findings, diagnoses, imaging data, prescriptions or sick notes.
Is it enough to encrypt the file?
Encryption is an important part, but not everything. Also pay attention to the correct address, a password passed on separately and a short deadline. Which measures apply to you, clarify with your data protection officer or your adviser.
How do I pass on the password?
Through a different channel than the link, ideally by phone or in person. Password protection is available from Premium.
What should not go into the email?
The notification about a transfer is an ordinary email. Do not write names, diagnoses or other health information in the message text.
Where is the data stored?
On servers in Germany, encrypted. Details are on the Security page.
Is this possible for free too?
On the Free plan, files are also encrypted in the browser. A transfer goes to one recipient there, is available for one complete download and is deleted afterwards. For health data, we recommend password protection, which is available from Premium.
Can I also receive health data?
Yes. With an upload link, patients or colleagues upload files to you encrypted, without an account. From Premium, you protect the link with a password.
