Send confidential documents securely
Transmit contracts, copies of IDs and financial documents encrypted, with a clear deadline and proof of retrieval.
The situation
Contracts, proof of salary, copies of IDs and bank statements often go out as an ordinary email attachment in everyday work. There they sit in mailboxes, backups and forwarded messages, usually without an expiry date. One typo in the address is enough, and the document is with the wrong person. Afterwards, senders can hardly trace who received the file.
How Fairsend helps
Encryption in the browser
Documents are encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM before they are uploaded and are stored on servers in Germany in encrypted form.
Password protection from Premium
You pass the password on through a different channel than the link.
Recipient code by email from Premium
Each recipient confirms their address with a code before the download. A forwarded link is then not enough to download.
Custom expiry from Premium
You decide how long a document stays available. After that, it is deleted automatically and permanently.
Proof of Delivery
You see when and by whom the transfer was completely downloaded, together with the SHA-256 checksums of the files.
Encrypted messages
You send short confidential details as an encrypted message that deletes itself after reading. For this you need a free account.
Suitable plan
Premium
€9.90 / month
or €79.00 per year
- Up to 50 GB per transfer
- Available for up to 30 days
Premium includes password protection, recipient code and a custom expiry, that is, the functions that matter when sending confidential documents.
Working as a team
In a team, rules apply to everyone: owners and admins can make password protection, recipient code and four-eyes approval mandatory. They see all team transfers, and the audit log records security-relevant actions. These functions are available from the Team plan.
For details on how encryption, storage and deletion work, see the Security page.
Frequently asked questions
Why not simply send an encrypted ZIP by email?
That is possible, but it creates effort for the recipient, and the file stays in the mailbox without a deadline. With Fairsend, encryption happens in the browser, the link expires and you see the download.
How do I pass on the password securely?
Use a different channel than for the link, such as a phone call or a personal conversation. A lost password cannot be restored.
What is the difference between password protection and recipient code?
The password protects the transfer itself and must be passed on separately. The recipient code checks whether someone has access to the recipient's address, and it works only when sending by email. Both are available from Premium, and you can combine them.
What happens to the files after sending?
When the period ends, they are deleted automatically and permanently. On the Free plan, this happens after the first complete download.
Can I also receive confidential documents?
Yes. With an upload link, others upload files to you encrypted, without an account of their own. From Premium, you protect the link with a password.
Does the recipient need an account?
No. They open the link in the browser. There the files are downloaded and decrypted.
Should I put confidential details in the message text?
Better not. The notification about a transfer is an ordinary email. Put confidential details in the file instead, or send them as an encrypted message.
