Fairsend for medical practices

Transmit findings and documents encrypted, on servers in Germany, with automatic deletion.

The situation

Findings, doctor's letters, referrals and imaging data belong to the special categories under Art. 9 GDPR and are subject to medical confidentiality. As email attachments, they often sit unencrypted in mailboxes. Patients nevertheless often ask for a digital copy, and imaging data quickly becomes too large for an attachment. One typo in the address is enough for health data to end up with the wrong person.

How Fairsend helps

Encryption in the browser

Files are encrypted on your device with AES-256 before they are uploaded and are stored on servers in Germany.

Password by phone from Premium

Protect a transfer with a password and tell the recipient by phone.

Recipient code by email from Premium

The patient confirms their address with a code before the download. A forwarded link is then not enough to download.

Reminders from Premium

If a recipient has not downloaded the files after a few days, they receive one reminder. This saves you from checking yourself whether the finding arrived.

Automatic deletion

When the period ends, the files are deleted automatically and permanently.

Example use: Secure Inbox

Patients send findings, referrals or photos through a form on your practice website. The submissions land in the inbox instead of the email mailbox.

Suitable plan

Premium

€9.90 / month

or €79.00 per year

  • Up to 50 GB per transfer
  • Available for up to 30 days

Premium includes password protection, recipient code, reminders, a custom expiry and several recipients per transfer.

Working as a team

In a group practice or a medical care center (MVZ), you work on the Team plan with roles and a shared address book for colleagues and institutions. Owners and admins see all team transfers and can make password protection mandatory for everyone.

For details on how encryption, storage and deletion work, see the Security page.

Frequently asked questions

Does Fairsend replace KIM or the telematics infrastructure?

No. Fairsend is not connected to the German healthcare telematics infrastructure (TI), whose secure email service is called KIM. It is a file sending service for cases outside of it, for example for patients or for large files.

May I send findings through Fairsend?

That depends on your practice and the individual case, for example on the patient's consent. Clarify this with your data protection officer or your adviser. Fairsend provides encryption, password protection and short periods for this.

Do patients need an account?

No. Patients open the link in the browser. With password protection, they enter the password you gave them beforehand.

Can patients send me documents?

Yes. Through an upload link, patients upload previous findings and images encrypted, without an account. Each link works once.

Is the Free plan enough for the practice?

For a single transfer to one recipient, yes. There, a transfer is available for one complete download and is deleted afterwards. Password protection is available from Premium and makes sense for health data.

Does Fairsend replace the patient file?

No. Fairsend is a transfer service, not an archive. Your documentation stays in your practice system.
